No. Among the 400 most installed paid Atlassian cloud apps, those under two years old have gained a median of 71.0 installs per month over their lifetime, against 10.4 per month for apps eight years or older, roughly seven times faster. The youngest band is only 10 apps, so treat it as a direction rather than a forecast. Measured September 2026.
A common assumption is that a marketplace this old is settled and a new app cannot get traction. The install counts say the opposite, at least among apps that got anywhere at all.

The median falls steadily with age: 71.0, then 22.8, then 15.6, then 10.4. That is a 6.8 times gap between the youngest and oldest bands.
Install rate here is a lifetime average, so an app released in 2010 is averaging across years when the cloud marketplace barely existed. Part of the gap is simply that the marketplace itself grew. But the effect survives that: apps born in the last two years are averaging their whole life inside today's marketplace, and they are still gaining installs several times faster than the veterans are managing on the same clock.
The practical reading is narrower than "new apps win". It is that a recent release date does not by itself prevent an app from accumulating installs at a rate the established apps do not match.
On 2026-09-07 we took the 400 most installed paid cloud apps on the Atlassian Marketplace, read each one's cumulative install count and its first release date, and divided installs by the number of months since that date. One app had no usable release date and is excluded, leaving n = 399.
