Obsidian publishes its whole plugin registry and per plugin download counts as two files in a public repository, which makes this the rare catalogue that can be counted exactly rather than sampled.

5,418 distinct authors for 7,403 plugins, so most authors have written exactly one. 122 authors have five or more, and the largest single portfolio is 26 plugins.
On 2026-09-08 we read the two files Obsidian publishes in its obsidian-releases
repository: community-plugins.json, the registry of every approved community plugin,
and community-plugin-stats.json, which carries a lifetime download total and a last
release timestamp for each. Both are the project's own files, so this is a full count of the
catalogue rather than a sample.
