A Markdown preview that renders in a real browser engine, follows the IDE theme, and keeps
working when something else takes over the .md file association.
Open any .md file. The preview opens as an extra tab beside the editor, so
nothing has to be disabled or replaced. The tabs at the bottom switch between
Preview and the split editor.
It reads the open document rather than the file on disk, so it updates as you type, and it remembers the scroll position across tab switches and IDE restarts.
Tables, task lists, strikethrough, fenced code and block quotes all render, and
```mermaid blocks are drawn as diagrams. The Mermaid library is bundled, so
nothing is downloaded and no content leaves the machine.
Colours are derived from the active editor colour scheme, so the preview matches light and dark alike.
When another file type claims .md, highlighting and the editor tab disappear
and most previews simply stop. This one keeps rendering, says what took the extension, and
offers it back in one click.
Settings | Tools | Markdown Preview Plus takes one path to a CSS file. It applies to every project, so the same house style does not have to be copied into each repository.
The whole preview is free: rendering, Mermaid diagrams, the IDE theme, live updates, the
remembered scroll position and the .md repair. Exporting to PDF and HTML, copying
with formatting, printing and a custom stylesheet are the paid part, with a 30-day trial that
needs no card. Buying and invoicing are handled by JetBrains.
