Step Functions Execution Viewer

Documentation · sellerkit

When a workflow fails you need three things: where it stopped, why, and what that state was given. This panel puts all three on one screen.

1. Open the panel and pick a state machine

The tool window is called Step Functions. Fill in Region, leave Profile empty for your default credentials, then choose the state machine from the drop-down.

2. Pick the execution you care about

The second drop-down lists recent executions with their status, so a failed run is easy to spot. Live keeps the list current while a run is in flight.

3. Read where it stopped and what it was given

The line above the table names the state that stopped the run, the error, and the input that state received.

The Step Functions panel showing the stopping state, the error, and the input to that state above a numbered event history with the failing event selected

The history below is numbered and in order, and selecting an event shows its input underneath, so you can walk back from the failure to the state that produced the bad value.

Free and paid

Seeing your state machines and their executions is free and stays free. Reading the event history with the failing state and its input, live auto-refresh and favorites need a licence, and every paid feature is included in a 30-day trial that needs no card.
